The Constitutional Rights Foundation Chicago is proud to honor U.S. Attorney
Patrick J. Fitzgerald and former U.S. Attorney Scott R. Lassar at its annual
Bill of Rights in Action Awards Benefit on Thursday, November 14 from 5:30 to
7:30 PM at the Chicago Cultural Center.
Each year CRFC presents the Bill of Rights in Action Award to honor those
individuals and organizations who, through their professional and community
endeavors, provide exemplary models of citizenship for our nation's youth.
Fitzgerald, the son of Irish immigrants, became U.S. Attorney for the Northern
District of Illinois this past fall. Previously, he served as Co-Chief of the
Organized Crime and Terrorism Section in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for
the Southern District of New York, where he received the U.S. Attorney
General's Award for Exceptional Service for his prosecution of those involved
in the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.
Lassar, now a Partner at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood, served as U.S. Attorney
for the Northern District of Illinois from 1997 until 2001. In addition to
supervising 130 assistant U.S. Attorneys, prosecuting white collar fraud,
public corruption, narcotics trafficking, and violent crimes, Lassar also
personally tried several cases, including the ADM price fixing case, for which
he received the Justice Department's highest honor.
"The U.S. Attorney carries the special burden of prosecuting corruption
impartially while representing our government in maintaining the highest
respect for the rights enshrined in our Constitution," said CRFC Board of
Directors Chair Jeffrey D. Colman. "We are honored to recognize these men who
have proved so able in meeting this charge."
Non-profit and non-partisan, CRFC has conducted democracy education programs in
Chicago and across the country since 1974.
Tickets are $75.
