EDUCATING FOR DEMOCRACY ELEMENTARY INSTITUTE

This national training institute for 2nd - 5th grade teachers in Chicago features CRFC's newly re-releasedVOICE (Violence Prevention Outcomes in Civic Education) and Primary VOICE curriculum. VOICE combines law, peer mediation, and service learning, while Primary VOICE, an extension of VOICE, enhances reading comprehension and citizenship among younger students. Instructors include experienced law-related educators, lawyers, and police officers or School Resource Officers. Registration is $100. Application deadline is June 1. This 3-day institute features materials and methods for teaching cases recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court, including researching relevant precedents for cases, structuring arguments for both appellant and appellee, and developing reasoned positions to use in both oral and written arguments. STREET LAW, INC. SUPREME COURT INSTITUTE
June 17-22 & 24-29, Washington, DC

Sponsored by Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society, this institute includes sessions led by Supreme Court experts, journalists, authors, and lawyers to give teachers an understanding of how the Court chooses and decides cases and what it is like to argue before the Court. The workshop culminates with a visit to the Court to hear decisions handed down, and a reception with a justice. Admission is competitive.
