Each month, CRFC highlights someone who plays an integral role in helping CRFC reach its mission. With CRFC programs reaching over 20,000 students last year, we know that without their enthusiastic participation our programs would not be successful. We know students are civically engaged while they participate in our programs, but what happens after that? We asked Illinois Youth Summit Alumni Amber Margentina what she’s been up to since she participated in that program, and found out what being civically engaged means to her.

Law students from Chicago–Kent College of Law worked with 5th graders at O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy helping them serve as jurors in a mock trial. The 5th graders weighed the evidence and deliberated before rendering verdicts on two charges: criminal trespass and theft.

This program will bring students together with law professors, legal experts, and law students to learn about the role of the U.S. Supreme Court in American democracy.
