ABC Project Completes Great Inaugural Year

CRFC has just completed the inaugural year of The ABC Project: Action-Based Communities with two spectacular student hearings at the Dirksen Federal Building.

Over 200 Chicago-area 4th-8th graders from eight schools presented nine different projects on May 25 and June 1.  Students addressed a variety of topics, including students’ access to healthcare at school, cyberbullying, school security, and healthy school lunch choices.  Students shared their policy recommendations with community respondents, who then asked questions and gave feedback on the projects.  Thanks to Scott  Bruner, Vic Filippini, Ben Ghess, and Diane Wood, who all served as community respondents.

The ABC Project continues this summer as CRFC has accepted an invitation from the Chicago Public Schools to conduct the program with 600 6thand 8thgraders in the month-long CPS Summer Bridge Program that begins June 19. The initiative will culminate in two showcases, one per grade, in July.
