The ABC Project Goes to Summer School

After a highly successful spring rollout of the program, CRFC was asked to implement The ABC Project at eight Chicago Public Schools in the south side Rock Island Network during the CPS 2012 Summer Bridge program.

In June and July, CRFC provided 21 teachers and 16 VISTA Volunteers with training, materials, and sustained support as they implemented the program. Despite triple digit temperatures, over 260 6th and 8th grade students attending summer school worked collaboratively in the project. Students addressed numerous issues important to them, including school improvements, public safety, anti-bullying measures, and violence prevention.

Students presented their work and their recommendations for further action to community respondents at on-campus hearings.  Many of these projects will continue when school resumes in the fall.
