Simulated Legislative Hearings

FAQ Timetable of Events How To Get Involved

Classes involved in Project Citizen may take part in regional noncompetitive hearings. The hearings, held at different schools, give students the opportunity to present their service learning projects to community members, ask and answer questions and receive feedback and recognition for their efforts and presentations. The hearings also allow students to reflect on their projects, improve their public speaking skills, receive tips on implementing their action plans and view projects completed by students at other schools.

Illinois Hearings - Spring 2002
In the spring of 2002 hearings were held at Pickard Elementary and Young Women's Leadership Charter School (YWLCS) in Chicago and at Willard Elementary in Elgin. Students representing eleven Illinois classroom projects took part in the noncompetitive hearings. Hearing judges included representatives from the Illinois State Board of Education, Chicago Public Schools, School District U-46, the city of Elgin and a variety of local and national businesses and law firms.
