Senator Richard J. Durbin
has been a staunch supporter of CRFC for several years, particularly CRFC's high school programs, the Illinois Youth Summit and Deliberating in a Democracy. He and his office serve as valuable resources recommending current controversial public issues for students to deliberate, meeting with students, and identifying resources to help students understand the complexity of the issues. When he meets with students to discuss his positions on issues, he welcomes opposing points of view and models the deliberative process. |
|
General Electric and the GE Foundation Foundation have demonstrated their commitment to engaging youth in democracy through their support of the Edward J. Lewis II Lawyers in the Classroom Program. Thanks to their support, 360 elementary classrooms were given Civic Education toolkits to supplement the visits from 600 attorneys. Over 9,000 students in Chicago, the suburbs, and downstate Illinois now have a deeper understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the law. |
