2012 CRFC Summer Institutes


MOCK TRIAL INSTITUTE—SUMMER 2012
Tuesday, July 17, 2012 9:00 AM—3:00 PM

AN INSTITUTE FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE TEACHERS INTERESTED IN CONDUCTING MOCK TRIALS IN THE CLASSROOM

The Mock Trial Institute will provide 7th and 8th grade teachers with materials and strategies to effectively carry out a mock trial in the classroom. State v. Roberts , CRFC's new Multimedia Jury Experience and Mock Trial Program created to help students learn about our criminal court system in a dynamic and engaging way, will be featured. Attendees receive 6 CPDUs.

Institute will take place at a downtown Chicago law firm and lunch will be provided.

MORE PERFECT UNION INSTITUTE—SUMMER 2012

A PROGRAM FOR 7TH AND 8TH GRADE TEACHERS WHO ADMINISTER THE U.S. CONSTITUTION TEST mpu

More Perfect Union is a curriculum created for teachers who administer the U.S. Constitution Test to their 7th or 8th grade students . The activities provided in this curriculum help prepare students for the Constitution Test and will deepen and reinforce their knowledge of our system of government. The dynamic lessons and strategies will show students how the Constitution applies to their lives and help them gain the skills and attitudes necessary to become active and engaged citizens. The curriculum contains extended response questions and a bank of alternative assessments. Attendees receive 12 CPDUs.

Teachers attending the 2-day More Perfect Union Summer Institute will be eligible to receive an attorney partner as part of the Edward J. Lewis II Lawyers in the Classroom Program.

SUPREME COURT 101 INSTITUTE—SUMMER 2012
SCU Tuesday, July 24, 2012 9:00am—3:00pm

AN INSTITUTE FOR SECONDARY TEACHERS INTERESTED IN TEACHING ABOUT THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT

This introduction to the United States Supreme Court is designed specifically for those teachers who have little or no knowledge of the U.S. Supreme Court or for those teachers who would like a refresher course. Supreme Court 101 will feature resources about the court and its workings along with classroom-ready materials.

Attendees receive 6 CPDUs.

Note: The fee for this institute will be discounted for those teachers registered for both Supreme Court 101 and Supreme Court Update.

SUPREME COURT UPDATE INSTITUTE—SUMMER 2012
July 25–26, 2011 9:00am—3:00pm

AN INSTITUTE FOR SECONDARY TEACHERS WHO TEACH LAW, GOVERNMENT, OR U.S. HISTORY

This two-day institute is designed to promote a greater understanding of the Supreme Court of the United States and its roles in American government. Participants will meet with legal scholars, former U.S. Supreme Court clerks, and other experts to review and discuss the implications of two decisions from the Court's October 2011 Term (2011–2012). The institute will feature resources about the issues, the Court, and the decision along with classroom-ready materials.

Attendees receive 12 CPDUs.

INSTITUTE SITE

The Institute will take place at the offices of the Illinois Supreme Court in downtown Chicago. Participants will receive curriculum materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.

COST

Supreme Court 101 Institute only—$75.00
Supreme Court Update Institute only—$150.00
Both Institutes—$200.00 (SAVE $25.00)

Note: CRFC will reimburse lodging and travel expenses up to $200 for Illinois participants outside the Metropolitan Chicago area.
